Book Review: Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1)

(Book sent to me by The Guardian)

Vampire Academy is written by Richelle Mead and it is the first book in the series. The main characters are Rose Hathaway, Lissa Dragomir, Dimitri Belikov, Christian Ozera, Mia Rinaldi, Natalie Dashkov and Victor Dashkov.

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school – it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir – a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s – the very place where they’re most in danger…

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi – the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires – make Lissa one of them forever.

I’ve been wanting to read Vampire Academy for such a long time and I am so glad that I did! I totally loved it! I could not put it down at all. I finished it in three days and I enjoyed it very much. It was fast-paced and fun to read. I love Rose, she’s such a cool and kick-ass character and I loved reading from her point of view because it’s always nice to have such a strong female protagonist in a book. I also loved the way the relationships developed throughout the story, especially between Rose and Dimitri. It is a serious story with a hint of humour to it and PLEASE do not be fooled by the name of the book because it might sound cheesy but it’s definitely NOT! I thought the relationship between Rose and Lissa was unique and interesting as well.

Again, I really enjoyed it and cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of the series! I definitely recommend it to all of you. If you are not sure, just pick up the first book and see if you like it. It’s not that long and I promise that you will love it. This series is a MUST READ and I hope that with each book, it gets better and better since it’s a long series.

Have you read it? I would love to hear your thoughts on it!
